We Like Cereal

ce·re·al (sîr'ē-əl)

Everyone loves breakfast cereal and growing up it was a family favorite.  Ever since we've been married we have had a substantial cereal collection.  It began with a few backup boxes in our small apartment and led to over 120 boxes in our current storage room.

Here is my philosophy on cereal:
  1. Don't go cheap.  Having been a connoisseur of cereal all my life there is definitely a difference between the real stuff and generic.  I'll share with you some tips on this blog for how to get name brand cereal for the store brand price
  2. Good for more than just breakfast.  Cereal is 'part of a complete breakfast' as we know and is a quick meal when you are on the go.  Cereal is also great for treats like indoor smores, Chex mix, Muddy Buddies and Rice Crispy Treats.   It's also a great snack for adults and kids alike dry or soggy.
  3. Great for food storage.  I've found that most of the cereal we buy expires in about a year so eat what you'll buy.  Cereal boxes stack really well.  For food storage just buy some cans of powered milk and you're set!  While others are grinding wheat  you'll be busy with your bowl and spoon.
  4. Just say no to impulse buying.  Cereal is one of the most important purchases you'll ever make, after all it is the source of the most important meal of the day.  Buying cereal should be strategic and planned and I'll show you how.  It can be an expensive impulse buy if not well thought out.
In my cereal posts I'll simply tell you the store, types of cereal and how to get the best deal using coupons or other in store promotions.  You can usually print coupons right from your computer so if you don't take the Sunday paper, no problem!

Printing Coupons
  • You can only download two coupons per computer, so if you have multiple computers you can print even more.
  • Print in black and white or color, it doesn't matter.
  • You will be prompted to install a special print driver on your computer prior to printing your coupons.  Go ahead and install it.
  • Print coupons now for sales that may occur in the future.  Online coupons don't usually expire for a few weeks, sometimes even a month.
How this Blog Works
  • Each week I will post the best deals on cereal based on Wednesday's grocery ads.
  • I will post where to print coupons or find coupons for those cereal deals
  • I will also post other cereal coupons to keep on hand for when those cereals go on sale.
